Specialty Equipment Rental Market Assessment
Assessing four equipment categories, 28 customer verticals, and local demand to support evaluation of specialty-rental expansion opportunities.
Context
We supported an industrial equipment client’s assessment of the specialty-rental market. The work connected category-level demand with customer applications, competitive supply, and local market conditions, giving the team a structured basis for evaluating commercial opportunities.
Approach
We triangulated paid industry research across pumps, HVAC and temperature control, air compression, and power generation. We profiled 28 customer verticals, examining equipment applications, rental dependencies, and the operating conditions behind demand. A crossover matrix mapped where customers could require several equipment categories.
Geographic analysis covered 100+ county markets, metropolitan demand, and oil and gas applications. The competitive work compared national chains with regional and local operators, documenting product fleets, supplier relationships, and differences in service capabilities.
We distinguished categories requiring greater engineering, personnel, and design support from more straightforward equipment rental, and incorporated company and transaction research into the market landscape.
Results
Deliverables included a four-category market assessment, a fleet-comparison workbook, a 28-vertical opportunity matrix, and company-screening research. Together, these connected market attractiveness with customer overlap, competitive coverage, and the operating requirements of serving different rental applications.
