Market Sizing with Alternative Data for Private Equity Diligence

Turning fragmented court filings into a structured ten-year research database for market sizing and investment diligence.

Context

For a private equity investment-diligence workstream, we converted fragmented court filings into a structured research database with a ten-year history. The assignment required building an evidence base from original documents to support the investment team’s market assessment.

Approach

We evaluated court-record databases and alternative sources for completeness and extractability, filtered for the relevant case records, and used optical character recognition and language-model-assisted cleaning to process image-based filings.

We standardized the records into analytical fields and examined geographic and time-series patterns. The work connected document extraction with market research, creating a dataset that could be analyzed across locations and years.

Results

The deliverables included a structured ten-year case database, geographic and temporal trend mapping, and market-sizing analysis supporting the investment team’s assessment.
